DESCRIPTION:
Massachusetts , 8 day, weight drive banjo or patent time piece, c1870
CONDITION:
This mahogany banjo has been restored. Both tablets are modern. Based on the movement, wood pendulum rod and wood baffle in the case it appears that this was probably a Hatch. The dial appears to be original to the case with paint loss on the edge and the mounting pins. This clock has been altered to appear as an earlier Willard-style clock. It now has a dial with spurious signature of Aaron Willard, Jr., modern decorative tablets, brass bezel, side arms and eagle. The movement and pendulum suggest it was originally converted from an Attleboro-style clock with wood bezel and black and gilt glasses.. The hinge area was reparied when the brass bezel was installed. Ht 33 3/4"
